Puerto del Carmen, like the rest of Lanzarote, has a near-perfect year-round climate. Temperatures range from a winter daytime average of 20°C to a summer high of 28°C, with very little rain at any time of year. The trade winds bring in cooler Atlantic air through the summer months, which keeps the resort pleasantly mild even in July and August when mainland Spain is sweltering.
Peak season is December through March, when northern Europeans escape the winter — book hotels and flights well in advance. Easter week is busy with Spanish holidaymakers. Summer (June to September) is less crowded and a little warmer, but the calima — the occasional dust wind from the Sahara — can settle over the island for a few days and reduce visibility. November and late January are the quietest months and often the best value.
Carnival in Arrecife (February) is the biggest annual event on the island and worth timing a visit around if the dates fit. The Festival de Música Visual de Lanzarote in July fills the César Manrique sites with sound and light installations after dark.
