Playa de los Pocillos lies a couple of kilometres west of central Puerto del Carmen, towards the airport, and is the longest of the resort's beaches at around a kilometre and a half. It is broader and more open than Playa Grande, more exposed to the prevailing northeasterly trade winds, and consequently a magnet for windsurfers, kitesurfers and surfers — a row of board-rental and surf-school operations sets up on the sand most mornings.
The shore breaks here are good for beginners (gentle on the lee side, more challenging at the eastern end), and there is enough wind in summer to draw international windsurf competitions. Apartment blocks and hotels back onto the beach rather than the long unbroken promenade of Playa Grande, which means the beach feels less commercialised — but also that there are fewer places to grab a drink without a short walk. Bring an umbrella; the open beach has little natural shade.
