Lighthouse of Fuencaliente

Twin lighthouses at La Palma's volcanic southern tip, beside salt pans and black lava

The Lighthouse of Fuencaliente marks the raw southern end of La Palma, where black lava, salt pans, Atlantic wind, and two generations of lighthouse architecture meet in one stark landscape. It is one of the island's easiest places to feel its volcanic edge.

Come by car or on a longer walking route from the volcanoes above. The saltworks nearby add colour and birdlife, and sunset can be excellent if the trade winds are not too fierce.
