The twelfth-century church of Santo Domingo has what many consider the finest Romanesque facade in Castilla y León — a richly carved west front with five archivolts (arched bands) of biblical scenes and decorative motifs stacked above the main portal. The carving is unusually deep and well-preserved, retaining detail that has worn away on many comparable churches. Look for the Wise and Foolish Virgins in the lower registers and scenes from the life of Christ in the upper bands.
The church is still in use as a parish church. The interior is plainer than the facade, but the apse at the east end has good Romanesque capitals on its columns. Services permitting, entry is usually free.
