Palacio de Fabio Nelli

A handsome late-16th-century Renaissance palace built for the Italian-Castilian banker Fabio Nelli, with a sober stone facade and a fine interior courtyard. It houses the Museo de Valladolid, the city's main archaeology and history museum, which traces the area from prehistory through Roman occupation, the medieval kingdom, and the Habsburg period.

The most striking items are Roman mosaics and metalwork from sites around the province, but the building itself is half the attraction — the contrast between the austere outer walls and the elegant arcaded patio is characteristic of Castilian urban palaces. Free for EU citizens.
