Bar del Pi has been a fixture on Plaça de Sant Josep Oriol since the 1950s, and the square it faces — shaded by a large plane tree and overlooked by the church of Santa Maria del Pi — is one of the nicest spots in the Barri Gòtic. The bar is small and fills up fast, but a table on the terrace is worth waiting for.
It has long attracted a mix of artists, musicians, and neighbourhood regulars. There's a piano inside that the occasional customer still plays. Order a glass of house wine, try the bombas (potato-and-meat croquettes, not the Barcelona version), and watch the square go by.
