Megalithic Sites

The hills behind Roses are dotted with prehistoric dolmens and standing stones, the remains of a Neolithic culture that thrived here around 3500 BC. A signposted route — the Ruta Megalítica — links the main sites and can be walked or driven in a couple of hours.

The Dolmen de la Creu d'en Cobertella, on the road toward Palau-saverdera, is the largest in Catalonia: a slab-built passage tomb with a 5-metre capstone. Several smaller dolmens and the menhir of les Capçades are within a short walk. Bring water; the route is exposed and there is little shade.
