When to Go

Cáceres has a continental climate with hot dry summers and cool winters. July and August are very hot (regularly above 38°C) and are the busiest months — school holidays bring Spanish domestic tourists, but the heat makes long walks in the old town uncomfortable. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are ideal: warm, less crowded, and with the best light on the golden stone.

Winter is cold but mild enough for daytime exploration, and the old town without crowds is particularly appealing. The storks that nest on the towers of the Ciudad Monumental begin returning from Africa in February, and by spring the clacking of their bills is constant.

Cáceres holds its WOMEX world music festival in late October every few years, which fills the old town with stages and outdoor performances and is worth timing a visit around. The city also hosts the International Film Festival FICCAB in the autumn.
