The Zona Arqueológica de Morería is a compact excavation near the Guadiana that shows layers of Mérida's Roman, Visigothic, Islamic, and later urban history. The remains are less dramatic than the theatre or the Alcazaba, but they help explain how the ancient city entrance and riverside quarter were reused over centuries.
It is best treated as a short stop while walking between the old centre and the river. A ticket is required.
