The Casa do Escudo (House of the Coat of Arms) is one of the best-preserved noble houses in the historic centre of Verín — a 16th-century stone building with a carved heraldic crest above the main doorway, arched windows on the upper floor, and the characteristic balcony of the Galician town houses of the period. It stands on the Rúa Mayor, the main street of the old town.
The building houses a small ethnographic museum covering the history of the Verín comarca, with displays on the wine trade, the spa industry, and the carnival traditions. Opening hours are limited and seasonal — check at the tourist office on the plaza — but the exterior, with the rest of the granite buildings of the Rúa Mayor, is the more memorable encounter and free at any hour.
