Mercado de Vallehermoso

Chamberí's 1930s iron-and-brick neighbourhood market on Calle Vallehermoso, renovated and home to quality food stalls

Chamberí's neighbourhood market, a fine 1930s iron-and-brick building on Calle Vallehermoso that has been restored without losing its working character. Unlike the tourist-facing Mercado de San Miguel, Vallehermoso serves the local population — there are fishmongers, butchers, a good cheese counter, and a fruit and vegetable section used by the neighbourhood's restaurants.

The ground floor also has a handful of counter-service spots for a market lunch: jamón, anchovies, patatas bravas, and cold beer. Busy Saturday mornings. A good complement to the Plaza de Chamberí antiques market that happens outside on Sunday mornings. Metro Quevedo.
