San Cayetano Church

18th-century Churrigueresque church on Embajadores with one of the most ornate Baroque façades in Madrid

An 18th-century Churrigueresque church on Calle Embajadores with an extraordinarily ornate Baroque facade — the kind of extreme decorative stonework where every surface seems to sprout with figures, foliage, and architectural flourishes. Designed by José Benito de Churriguera and Pedro de Ribera, the facade is considered one of the finest examples of the Churrigueresque style in Madrid.

The church is the centre of the San Cayetano Fiesta, one of the three August festivals (San Cayetano, San Lorenzo, La Paloma) that transform Lavapiés and La Latina into open-air street parties over successive weekends. The streets fill with food stalls, live music, dancing, and temporary bars. Free to enter. Metro Tirso de Molina or Embajadores.
