A covered market on Calle Santa Isabel that has reinvented itself as one of the better gastronomic markets in central Madrid — smaller and less touristy than the Mercado de San Miguel near the Plaza Mayor. The ground floor has traditional stalls for meat, fish, produce, and deli goods; the upper level has been taken over by small food bar operators serving sushi, pintxos, natural wine, and modern Spanish cooking.
The market sits on the boundary between Lavapiés and Huertas and draws a genuinely local crowd at lunchtime. Reasonable prices, good quality. Metro Antón Martín.
