Hedvig Eleonora Church

Hedvig Eleonora Church is the domed yellow church that anchors Östermalm, named after the 17th-century dowager queen and built on an octagonal plan begun in the 1660s, though its copper dome was not completed until the 1860s. It stands on Storgatan a short walk from Östermalms Saluhall, its rotunda an unmistakable landmark among the neighbourhood's grand apartment blocks.

The light interior under the dome is worth a look, and the surrounding churchyard and square make a calm pause in the middle of Östermalm. It is a quick, easy stop to fold into a wander between the food hall and Strandvägen.
