Uppsala is small and remarkably flat — the entire historical core can be walked in twenty minutes, and most visitors never need transport beyond their own legs. The exception is Old Uppsala (Gamla Uppsala) to the north and Hammarby to the southeast, both of which need a bus or bike.
City buses are run by UL (Upplands Lokaltrafik). A single ticket costs around 35 SEK and is best bought via the UL app; a day ticket is around 95 SEK. Tickets can also be used on the regional buses to nearby towns. Buses run frequently from the central hub at Stora Torget.
Bicycles are the everyday transport of choice for residents. Several shops near the train station rent by the day; expect to pay 150–200 SEK. The river path and the cycle lanes along Kungsgatan make it easy to get anywhere in the central city in under ten minutes.
