Uppsala packs a surprising amount of history into a compact area. The medieval cathedral and castle dominate the western skyline, while the ancient Viking mounds at Old Uppsala lie just a short bus ride north. In between, the legacy of Carl Linnaeus — botanical gardens, a preserved home, a countryside estate — threads through the city. Most of the key sights are walkable from the central station.
