Uppsala's restaurant scene is shaped by its 30,000 students and a long tradition of student "nations" running their own pubs and dining halls. The result is a city with plenty of inexpensive, generous food alongside a handful of more serious restaurants clustered around the cathedral and the river. Stortorget and the streets south toward the train station are the densest area for cafés and bistros.
