Uppsala's drinking culture is dominated by the student nations, which run their own pubs on a members-plus-guests basis — fun if you can get a student to sign you in, but otherwise off-limits. Outside the nations, the better bars are clustered along Sysslomansgatan and around the cathedral square. Fika is taken seriously here: the city has a string of long-established cafés that have been pouring coffee since the 19th century.
