Sankt Maria Cathedral — commonly called Visby Cathedral — is the only church within the walls that has remained in continuous use since the 12th century. The nave and tower date from the Romanesque period, though the building has been extended and altered many times. It still serves as Visby's parish church today. The interior is plain but handsome, and the tower is the visual anchor of the old town's roofline.
