In summer, the Portes du Soleil becomes a mountain biking and hiking destination, with the lifts still running and the trails open. From the Planachaux plateau above Champéry, marked footpaths lead through alpine meadows, past isolated farms, and up into rocky terrain above the treeline. The circuit around the Croix de Culet and across toward Les Crosets is a popular half-day walk with sweeping views across the Illiez valley.
Mountain bikers have dedicated routes designed for the terrain, and the bike park at Avoriaz on the French side of the area is accessible from Champéry via the lifts. If you prefer something gentler, the valley floor and the wooded lower slopes offer easier walking directly from the village, and the summer crowds are a fraction of the winter numbers.
