Davosersee (Lake Davos)

Davosersee is a natural alpine lake at the northern end of the valley, about 2 km from Davos Dorf. In summer it is Davos's swimming lake — the water is cold and clear, fed by snowmelt from the surrounding peaks, and the setting, surrounded by forest with mountains rising on all sides, is excellent. A small lido area has changing facilities and a café.

In winter the lake freezes and provides what locals consider the most beautiful skating in Europe: skating on natural ice in the open air, with mountain views in every direction. The ice is maintained and safe to skate on when conditions allow; skating equipment can be hired. The lake is a 15-minute walk from Davos Dorf railway station.

A story
Lake Davos sits at 1,560 m — high enough that it remains too cold to swim until late June even in a warm summer. It freezes reliably in winter and hosts natural ice skating on its surface, a tradition that predates the ski industry and remains one of the town's most atmospheric cold-weather activities.
