The Heimwehfluh ("homesickness hill") is the gentler counterpart to the Harderkulm — a wooded viewpoint above Interlaken's western end, reached by a short funicular ride from near the West station. At 669 metres it sits well below the Harderkulm, but the views over Lake Thun and the western Alps are excellent, and the whole operation is smaller and less crowded than its rival across the valley.
The summit has a small restaurant and a model railway that has been delighting children for decades, running through a miniature Swiss landscape complete with tunnels, bridges, and working signals. Forest trails lead off into the hillside for easy walks. The Heimwehfluh is particularly good for families or for those wanting an escape from the adventure-tourism crowd in the main town.
