Tandem skydiving from the Interlaken Airbase at Matten drops you from over 4,000 metres — high enough to see the full Jungfrau massif, both lakes, and on clear days a sweep of Alps from Bern to Graubünden. The freefall lasts around sixty seconds before the parachute opens; the canopy flight down adds another five to eight minutes in the air. The mountain backdrop sets this apart from coastal or flatland jump sites.
Several operators work from the airbase. The experience takes the better part of half a day — briefing, equipment fitting, waiting for weather, the jump, and recovery. The weather window matters: cloud cover and wind can delay or cancel jumps, so build flexibility into your plans. Prices are high by international standards but broadly consistent between operators. Prior experience is not required; your tandem instructor does the actual skydiving.
