MCBA – Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts

Cantonal fine arts museum in the new Plateforme 10 arts complex

The Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts holds Vaud canton's permanent art collection in a contemporary building on the Plateforme 10 arts campus, a short walk from the main station. The collection spans Swiss and European painting from the 15th century to the present, with particular strength in 19th-century Swiss work and a large holding of works by artists connected to the Lake Geneva region.

The Plateforme 10 site also includes the Photo Elysée (photography museum) and mudac (design museum), making it easy to visit all three in a morning or afternoon. Admission to the permanent collection is reasonably priced by Swiss standards.

A story
The MCBA opened its current building on Plateforme 10 in 2019, joining the Photo Elysée and mudac on a purpose-built arts campus around Lausanne's main railway station. The project transformed a disused railway yard into one of Switzerland's most concentrated clusters of museums, all within a five-minute walk of each other and of the trains.
