The mudac (Musée de design et d'arts appliqués contemporains) is Lausanne's museum of contemporary design, installed in a crisp modern building in the Flon district. The collection covers industrial design, graphic design, jewellery, glass, and ceramics from the 20th century onward, with a rotating programme of temporary exhibitions that tends to be genuinely interesting rather than safe.
It is a compact museum and can be done in an hour. The permanent collection is strong on Swiss and European design, and the gift shop is one of the better design shops in the city. Combined with the galleries and bars in the surrounding Flon, it makes a good afternoon visit.
