Gandria is a tiny lakeside village east of Lugano, pressed between Monte Bre and the water in a tumble of stone houses, steps and narrow lanes. It is one of the most atmospheric places on Lake Lugano, especially when reached by boat or by the lakeside path from Castagnola.
There is not much to do in the checklist sense, which is exactly why it works. Wander the lanes, look across the lake toward Italy, and stop for a drink or meal if the terraces are open. The return by boat gives the best view of how dramatically the village clings to the slope.
