The cable car from Paradiso, in the south of Lugano, climbs to the summit of Monte San Salvatore at 912 m. The views from the top take in the full sweep of Lake Lugano and the Alps behind it — on a clear day you can see as far as the Bernese Alps. The summit has a restaurant and a small museum. Those who'd rather descend on foot can take the marked hiking trails back down through the forest. The mountain's clean silhouette is one of the defining images of the Lugano skyline.
