Hanselmann

Address Via Maistra 8, St. Moritz

Hanselmann is the classic St. Moritz confiserie, a pastry shop and café that has occupied its central position on Via Maistra since 1894. The Engadin nut tart — a shortcrust pastry filled with caramelized walnuts and honey — originated here, or at least that is what the shop will tell you. The tarts are excellent and make good presents; they keep for weeks.

The café section serves coffee, hot chocolate, and a range of cakes and pastries in a wood-panelled room that has not changed much in fifty years. It is one of the few places in St. Moritz where you can sit and order something modest without feeling out of place. In winter it fills quickly after morning ski sessions.
