Mont Fort

3,330-metre summit, the high point of the 4 Vallées

The 3,330-metre summit of Mont Fort is the highest point in the 4 Vallées ski region — a glacier-clad peak reached by cable car in two stages from Les Ruinettes. The summit station has a panoramic terrace, an ice cave, and a small café; on a clear day you can pick out Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn and the Grand Combin from the railing.

The cable car runs in winter and again from mid-July to early September. In winter, the piste back down is a serious black; off-piste, the bowl below the summit is one of Europe's premier freeride venues. In summer it is one of the easiest ways for non-mountaineers to step onto a real Alpine glacier.

A story
The Mont Fort cable car runs in two stages from Tortin up to the glacier summit station at 3,330 metres. From here the view stretches on a clear day from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn and across the Italian Alps. The black piste back down to Tortin is one of the steepest groomed runs in Switzerland — and the off-piste mogul field below the summit is the arena for the famous Xtreme Verbier freeride contest each March.
