Verbier has two clear seasons separated by long shoulder months when much of the village shuts down.
Winter ski season runs roughly from late November to mid-April. The 4 Vallées generally opens early December and closes around 25 April. Best snow is usually January and February, when conditions are at their most reliable; March often brings the best spring skiing and the longest days. The famous Xtreme Verbier freeride contest happens in late March.
Summer hiking season runs from late June to mid-September, with the lifts to Les Ruinettes, Attelas and Mont Fort open most days. The peak of the season is the two-week Verbier Festival in late July and early August. The Patrouille des Glaciers ski-mountaineering race ends in Verbier in late April every two years.
Shoulder seasons (mid-April to mid-June, and late September to mid-November) are quiet — many restaurants, hotels and lifts close. Worth it only if you want solitude in the village and easy hiking weather without crowds.
