Zug is pleasant year-round but is at its best in late spring and summer, when the lake is warm enough to swim and the cherry orchards on the surrounding hillsides are heavy with fruit. The Zugerberg is accessible and green from May through October. July is cherry harvest season — the local Kirsch production is at its most visible, and the Kirschtorte appears in every bakery window.
Winter brings snow to the Zugerberg plateau and occasional frost, but the city itself stays mild by Swiss standards, sheltered by the surrounding hills. Christmas markets run through December on the old town squares. Public transport to Zurich and Lucerne is reliable year-round.
