The second of Donetsk's two major parks, Central Scherbakov Park occupied a large forested area in the city's eastern districts. Quieter and more wooded than the Culture and Leisure Park, it was a favourite with families and those seeking shade in the hot Donbas summers. The park's scale — one of the larger urban green spaces in the region — reflected the Soviet planners' ambition to give industrial cities breathing room.
