Lvivska Brewery

The Lvivska Brewery, on Kleparivska Street, is one of the oldest breweries in Eastern Europe and offers tours that take in the original 18th-century cellars along with the modern production facilities. The tour ends with a tasting in the brew pub attached to the building, which serves a range of Lvivska beers including some that aren't available in bottles. The setting — a large red-brick industrial complex that has been in use for three centuries — is interesting in its own right.

The attached restaurant is a decent spot for lunch or an evening beer, with a menu of Ukrainian food and a bias toward meat dishes that go well with dark lager. The area around the brewery is slightly off the tourist track, which gives it a more local atmosphere than the old-town restaurants.

A story
The brewery was founded in 1715 and is one of the oldest continuously operating breweries in Eastern Europe. Under the Habsburgs it was considered one of the best in the Empire. Soviet nationalization changed both the ownership and the recipes; post-independence privatization changed them again. The flagship Lvivske lager — ubiquitous across Ukraine — has its origins in this building, though the recipes of 1715 are long gone.
