Saint George (Jura) Cathedral

Baroque-Catholic cathedral on Lviv's St. George Hill, long tied to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church

Saint George Cathedral stands on a rise west of Lviv's old centre, a little apart from the denser church trail around Rynok Square. Its pale Baroque facade, sculptural decoration, and broad ceremonial stairs make it one of the city's grand religious set pieces rather than just another historic church.

The cathedral is especially important for understanding Lviv's Ukrainian Greek Catholic story. Come for the architecture, but give yourself time to walk the precinct: the hilltop setting, bishops' residence, and courtyard views make the visit feel calmer and more spacious than the churches in the old town.
