The most dramatic archaeological discovery in Britain in a generation is now celebrated in an excellent purpose-built museum on the spot where Richard III's remains were found. The exhibition traces the king's life, his reign, the Battle of Bosworth, and then the remarkable forensic detective story that led to his identification — you can stand directly over the outline of the grave where he was found.
The quality of storytelling here is genuinely high. The displays explain the DNA testing, facial reconstruction, and isotope analysis used to build up a picture of a man who looked very different from the hunchbacked villain of Shakespeare's imagination. The adjacent Leicester Cathedral, where Richard is now reinterred, is free and worth a few minutes after the centre.
