St Margaret's Church

St Margaret's is the ancient parish church of Lowestoft, standing on a hill in the northern part of the town with views over the harbour and sea. The present building is largely 15th century, though the site has been a place of worship for over a thousand years. The tower is a prominent local landmark visible from the seafront.

Inside the church, the highlights include late-medieval woodwork, a collection of memorial tablets, and good stained glass. The churchyard contains some unusual maritime memorials — fishermen and mariners who died at sea. The setting on the ridge above the town, with its old flint walls and mature trees, makes this one of the more atmospheric spots in Lowestoft.
