The South Downs Way reaches Eastbourne through some of the most dramatic walking country in southern England, including chalk downland, sea views, and access toward Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters. It is a major reason hikers use Eastbourne as a base rather than only a seaside resort.
You do not need to tackle the full national trail to appreciate it. Short out-and-back walks from town can still deliver big views, while longer stages require proper footwear, weather awareness, and transport planning.
