St Catherine's Chapel

Ruined medieval chapel on a hill above the River Wey outside Guildford.

St Catherine's Chapel is a small medieval ruin on the rise south of Guildford, overlooking the River Wey and the road toward Shalford. Only the walls remain, but the position gives the chapel more presence than its size suggests: a fragment of fourteenth-century devotion set above a landscape of river, meadow, and town edge.

It is an easy walk from central Guildford and pairs well with the Wey towpath or the climb toward St Martha's Hill. The site is unfenced and atmospheric, especially in low light, when the broken windows and roofless nave feel less like a monument and more like a landmark that has simply weathered into the hillside.
