The Hole in the Wall

A small, dim, perfectly preserved Victorian street-corner pub on Great Southsea Street, hidden away in the back streets behind the cathedral. Real ales from local breweries (Irving, Suthwyk, Langham), a fire in winter, conversation rather than music.

It is one of the best beer pubs in the city and a favourite of off-duty Royal Navy crews. Closes earlier than most — go by 10pm to be safe.
