Windsor Guildhall, on the High Street opposite the castle, is the historic town hall of Windsor — a brick-and-Portland-stone building completed in 1689 to designs probably by Sir Christopher Wren. The ground floor is an open arcade where markets were once held; the council chamber and assembly rooms are upstairs.
The Guildhall has had a second career as a wedding venue and was the site of two royal civil ceremonies: Charles III and Camilla in 2005, and Elsie Goldsmith and Geoffrey Wignall earlier — the latter being a moment of national surprise when the king's wedding was held in the same room as everyone else's. The building is now part of the Windsor and Royal Borough Museum.
