Sudeley Castle is one of the strongest excursions from Cheltenham, set above Winchcombe with the Cotswold hills close around it. Its history runs through Tudor politics and royal visits, and it is especially known as the burial place of Katherine Parr, the last wife of Henry VIII.
The appeal is the combination: lived-in castle, chapel, gardens, and a village-and-countryside setting that feels properly Cotswold. Give it more time than a photo stop, and check seasonal opening dates before planning the trip.
