Salisbury is exceptionally well placed for day trips. Stonehenge is barely twenty minutes by car, and the Stonehenge Tour bus makes it straightforward without driving. Avebury's stone circles and the prehistoric landscape around them can fill a full day. Bath is under an hour by train and offers Roman baths and Georgian architecture on a different scale entirely.
