Getting Around

Salisbury's compact old town is best explored on foot. The cathedral, the Market Place, and virtually all of the main sights are within ten minutes' walk of each other. Wear comfortable shoes — the central streets are often cobbled or uneven.

For the surrounding area, a car is useful but not essential. The Stonehenge Tour bus runs from Salisbury railway station and bus station throughout the day during the tourist season, stopping at Old Sarum on the way. There are also local bus services to surrounding villages, though frequency drops sharply in the evenings and on Sundays.

Cycling is possible on the many bridleways and quiet lanes around the city, including routes along the River Avon. Bikes can be hired in the city centre.
