Salisbury has a solid pub culture and a few good cafes. The pubs tend toward traditional rather than trendy — exposed beams, real ale, and food that runs to pies and roasts. The cathedral close and the streets off the Market Place have the best concentration. Several pubs claim considerable age; the Haunch of Venison on Minster Street is among the more historically convincing.
