The city's main producing theatre, based in a purpose-built building near the Maltings. The Playhouse produces its own work as well as touring productions, with a programme spanning drama, comedy, and occasional musicals. The smaller studio space upstairs hosts more experimental work. Check the programme before you visit — the quality is generally high and tickets are considerably cheaper than comparable shows in London.
