Getting There

Birmingham New Street is the main rail hub — Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, and West Midlands Railway all call here. London Euston to Birmingham New Street takes around 1 hour 20 minutes by fast train. Manchester Piccadilly is 1 hour 30 minutes; Bristol is around 1 hour 45 minutes. Birmingham Moor Street station (5 minutes walk from New Street) serves Stratford-upon-Avon and Chiltern Railways routes to London Marylebone.

Birmingham Airport (BHX) is 8 miles east of the city, with direct flights to major European destinations and long-haul routes to North America, South Asia, and the Middle East. The Air-Rail Link monorail connects the terminal to Birmingham International rail station (2 minutes); trains to New Street take 10 minutes.

By road, the M6 runs north–south past the city; the M42 forms an eastern bypass with connections to the M40 (London) and M5 (Bristol and the southwest). The Spaghetti Junction interchange (officially Gravelly Hill Interchange) on the M6 is notorious but functional.
