St Thomas' Peace Garden

Peace garden built around the bombed remains of St Thomas' Church near Birmingham city centre.

St Thomas' Peace Garden occupies the churchyard of St Thomas', a 19th-century church destroyed during the Birmingham Blitz. The surviving tower and portico remain in the garden, joined by memorial elements moved from the city's Hall of Memory. It is a small, sober place, but the layering of ruined church, war memorial, and replanted garden gives it more weight than its size suggests.

The garden sits close to the Mailbox and the southern edge of the city centre, so it is easy to fold into a walk rather than plan around. It is most interesting if you are tracing Birmingham's wartime scars or looking for quieter spaces away from the shopping streets.
