Wroxeter Roman City preserves the remains of Viroconium Cornoviorum, a major Roman settlement that at its height was among the largest cities in Roman Britain. The surviving masonry is only a fraction of what once stood here, but the bath-house wall, excavated foundations, and reconstructed town house make the scale easier to read.
The site is a strong day-trip add-on from Shrewsbury, especially for travellers following Roman or early British history. It is a ruin rather than a polished city museum, so allow time to walk the ground, read the interpretation, and imagine the streets that once spread well beyond the visible remains.
