Day Trips

The Malvern Hills, eight miles to the west, are the most obvious day trip from Worcester — the ridge walk from North Malvern to Worcestershire Beacon and back takes about three hours and gives views across six counties on a clear day. Great Malvern town, at the foot of the hills, has a fine Victorian priory and good cafes.

Elgar country lies just outside the city; the Elgar Birthplace Museum at Broadheath, three miles west, is a small but evocative house museum covering the composer's life. The Severn Valley Railway, with steam trains running between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth through the Severn gorge, is a good half-day outing. The historic cathedral cities of Hereford and Gloucester are both about an hour by train.
