When to Go

Worcester has a temperate English climate — mild and damp, with no great extremes. Summer (June–August) is the most pleasant time to visit: the riverside walk and cathedral precinct are at their best, and the county cricket season at New Road runs from April to September. The Three Choirs Festival, which rotates between Worcester, Hereford, and Gloucester, brings Worcester alive every third year in late July or early August — check the three-year cycle before booking around it.

December and January are the quietest months, though the cathedral looks its best in winter light, and the Christmas market in the city centre runs through December. Spring is underrated — the riverside meadows at Pitchcroft are sometimes flooded after wet winters, and the reflected cathedral in the water is a sight worth the damp.
